MOTET: a short piece of sacred choral music, typically polyphonic and unaccompanied.
At our upcoming January 26/27 concert to be performed in the magnificent Maryknoll Chapel, Hudson Chorale will transport its audience with six motets from the Romantic period of music: two each from Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Brahms and Dvorak. These sacred texts set to music convey the mysteries of the sacred, joyful exultation and devotion. As one expects from compositions of the Romantic era, each features an ample variety of dynamics and phrasing to challenge singers and inspire audiences! Faure’s “Requiem”, performed with professional soloists and orchestra, is the centerpiece of our January program. The large and resonant Maryknoll Chapel is the most perfect setting for its message of eternal rest and consolation. Hudson Chorale invites you to attend our January 26/27 performances, and to share our passion for great vocal music!
Directly following our January performances, we launch into rehearsals for Stravinsky’s exhilarating and unconventional “Symphony of Psalms”. This is a beloved yet seldom performed composition arranged for chorus, double pianos, brass, woodwinds, percussion and limited strings. Stravinsky’s setting of Psalms 38, 49 and 150 offers the powerful rhythms and chromatic harmonies that he is so well known for in his orchestral compositions, and amplifies it with the vocal intensity of full chorus! Would you like to sing with us? Auditions start Monday, January 28th!
